Check out your Legion this summer
The summer months showcase some exciting initiatives our members are involved in at The Royal Canadian Legion, from pilgrimages to military marches and motorcycle events – all supporting and honouring Canada’s Veterans. And at Branches across the country, there are more opportunities you can volunteer for, or even participate in yourself!
If you’re looking to keep up with this season’s events, follow the Legion on Facebook or stop by your local branch to see what’s going on.
Operation VetBuild is helping Veterans thrive
Led by the Legion’s Operational Stress Injury Special Section, The Royal Canadian Legion initiated Operation VetBuild, a new national peer-to-peer program supporting Veteran wellbeing through model building.
Working alongside their peers, the activity offers Veterans an opportunity to learn a new skill, promote relaxation, improve concentration, reduce stress and provide a sense of community to enhance wellbeing. Launched in April in Ajax, Ontario, the program is expanding nationally.
Stay updated with the Legion Pilgrimage on social media
The Royal Canadian Legion Pilgrimage of Remembrance is set to embark on July 6, visiting significant commemorative sites including Normandy, Juno, Ypres and Passchendaele.
Legionnaire Jim Perfitt will chronicle his and the group’s experiences, reflecting on the events and immense sacrifices of those who served – follow us on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook for the latest updates.
Follow a fellow Legionnaire’s Nijmegen adventure
Lee Harrison, member of Branch 52 in Peterborough Ontario, will be representing the Legion at the International Four Days Marches Nijmegen held in the Netherlands July 16 to 19. More than 7,000 military and 40,000 civilians from all over the world participate in the event. For military participants, the Nijmegen March entails four days of walking more than 40 kilometres per day with a 10 kilogram backpack for each soldier.

See photos from the Legion’s National Memorial Ride
On the rainy Sunday afternoon of June 2, Veterans and supporters gathered to participate in The Royal Canadian Legion’s National Memorial Ride, an event that brings together motorcycle enthusiasts on a ride to honour Canada’s Fallen Veterans. The riders made their way to the National Military Cemetery at Beechwood in Ottawa to participate in a Service of Remembrance.
